The HBO and Max March 2025 list of new arrivals is filled with highly anticipated streaming premieres. For starters, The Righteous Gemstones Season 4 is bringing the fan-favorite HBO original series to an end when it kicks off on March 9, 2025. To directly quote creator/star Danny McBride, “It’s time to wrap this sucker up!”
The satirical comedy series about the dysfunctional Gemstones, a hypocritical family of televangelistswho use the donations of their megachurch to fund their lavish yet absurd lifestyles, has been undefeated with its chaotic humor for the last six years. In this final season, the Gemstone kids, Jesse (Danny McBride), Kelvin (Adam DeVine), and Judy (Edi Patterson), must find their father, the family patriarch Eli (John Goodman), who’s “retired” to a rundown boat in the tropics while Uncle Baby Billy (Walton Goggins) tries to shoot a new church-funded TV show about Jesus Christ’s teenage years, which is hilariously titled “Teenjus.” Funny enough, McBride’s other beloved HBO show, Eastbound & Down, also ran for four seasons, not overstaying its welcome.
Moving into Max originals, When No One Sees Us lands on March 7, 2025. Notably, this is the first Spanish-produced Max original series, based on the novel Cuando nadie nos ve by Sergio Sarrias. Set during the Holy Week celebrations in Southern Spain, the cross-cultural crime thriller follows civil guard colonel Lucía Gutiérrez (Maribel Verdú) as she investigates a mysterious local suicide at the same time that U.S. army military police lieutenant Magaly Castillo (Mariela Garriga) arrives in town to search for a missing American soldier. The unlikely duo must combine their wits if they are to solve how their respective cases are actually linked together. New episodes of When No One Sees Us will debut weekly.
Next up is The Parenting, a new Max original film from director Craig Johnson — the mind behind indie gems like True Adolescents (2009) and The Skeleton Twins (2014). Premiering on March 13, 2025, The Parenting is a comedy-horror movie that follows a young gay couple, played by Nik Dodani (Atypical) and Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why), who host a weekend getaway with both pairs of their parents at a seemingly cozy country house. Unluckily for them, this rental home also comes with a 400-year-old evil entity! The Parenting is packed with comedic talent in its ensemble cast, including Lisa Kudrow (Friends), Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), Dean Norris (Breaking Bad), Parker Posey (Party Girl), and the great Brian Cox (Succession).
Max subscribers are in for a special treat in March 2025, as three recent critically acclaimed A24 movies are making their streaming debuts. Heretic, from directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, comes first on March 7, 2025. Veteran actor Hugh Grant takes on his first horror role as Mr. Reed, a seemingly pleasant old man who traps two unknowing young female Mormon missionaries, played by Sophie Thatcher (Companion) and Chloe East (The Fabelmans), in his cottage for a twisted series of tests that will prove the existence of the “one true god.” Part dark satire, part survival thriller,Hereticprovides layered commentary on the hypocrisy of religion and is worth the watch for Grant’s cunning yet sadistic performance alone.
Sing Sing then hits the Max streaming platform on March 21, 2025. Led by an incredible performance from Colman Domingo (Rustin), Sing Sing tells the true story of John ‘Divine G’ Whitfield and his life-changing experience in the Rehabilitation Through the Arts program at the notorious Sing Sing Maximum Security Prison in New York. The A24 film stars real formerly incarcerated men and alumni of the RTA program, like Clarence ‘Divine Eye’ Maclin and Jon-Adrian ‘J.J.’ Velazquez, adding a great depth of authenticity to this powerful tale of prison reform. Through their love and passion for theater, the inmates of Sing Sing heal old wounds and form new bonds that they will carry for the rest of their lives.
Finally, Queer comes to the streaming giant late in the month on March 28, 2025. Following the widespread success of Challengers, director Luca Guadagnino decided to release perhaps the most personal and complex movie of his career. Based on the unfinished 1985 novella from “Beat Generation” author William S. Burroughs, Queer centers on American expat William Lee (Daniel Craig) as he romantically pursues the young and elusive ex-Navyman Eugene Allerton (Drew Starkey) across 1950s Mexico City and South America. But Eugene unlocks something dire within Lee, reframing his whole identity and life’s purpose. Without a doubt, former James Bond 007 star Daniel Craig delivers a career-best performance in Queer, so heartbreaking that it will stay with viewers forever.
While it’s not recent, another topical A24 flick is getting added to the Max streaming service with Ari Aster‘s comedic horror film Beau Is Afraid on March 14, 2025. Regarding older classics, Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas, the first two Ghostbusters movies, and the original Men in Black trilogy are all coming to the streamer at the beginning of March 2025. Additionally, Brian De Palma‘s seminal Carrie film adaptation from 1976, as well as the 2013 remake, will now be available to stream this month. This is fantastic timing, considering that modern horror master Mike Flanagan is currently in the middle of working on his own modern Carrie TV show for Amazon Prime Video.
